On 5 May 2020, we organized a webinar that exposed and denounced tobacco industry interference during the COVID-19 period. Participants included journalists, government and CSO representatives and others stakeholders.

On 20 April 2020, we issued an alert informing stakeholders and the entire tobacco control community of the various tactics and strategies used by the tobacco industry to boost its business during this COVID-19 period.

Statement

On 20 April 2020, we issued a statement denouncing tobacco industry interference initiatives during the COVID-19 period and highlighting the need for CSO engagement to arouse public condemnation of tobacco industry maneuvers.

Support Letter

For standing firm to protect the health of South Africans by temporally banning the sale of tobacco products despite several lawsuits initiated by the tobacco industry, we sent a letter of support to the government of South Africa on 2 June 2020 commending its efforts to keep the population safe during the pandemic.

In-Country Campaigns

We support our members to undertake campaigns to denounce tobacco industry interference, and sensitize the population and authorities on industry maneuvers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
